The One Step Bail Out System is the creation of career firefighter Jon Wilson. Jon is a career firefighter with the Fairview Fire District in Poughkeepsie, New York. Jon has been with Fairview and a member of I.A.F.F. Local 2623 for over eight years. Before working at Fairview, Jon was a member of a volunteer fire department in southern Dutchess County for fifteen years. During his time there he rose up through the ranks to volunteer chief. In addition to his time in the fire service, Jon has been repelling and climbing for the last eight years in his time off.
Jon has been trying out different types of systems and ropes for the past four years. On January 23rd, 2005, six FDNY firefighters had to jump from a building. Four of the firefighters were seriously injured and two were critically injured. Lt. Curtis W. Meyran and FF. John G. Bellow died as a result of their injuries. This tragedy moved Jon to really come up with a better way.
Jon has seen a need for an easy way for a firefighter to escape a life-threatening atmosphere under the worst conditions. The system Jon had in mind had to be easy to use, lightweight to carry, and simple to deploy. Jon has used his many years experience in firefighting and rock climbing to come up with the One Step Bail Out System.
